Paavadai / Full skirt 1

This one is pure silk paavadai / long skirt. I felt very dry stitching the full skirts in the same pattern and it was boring. So was searching the net. Still couldn't find a design or cutting which satisfied me. But my Daughter was pestering me finish it of soon as she was very eager to wear.

When I saw a decorative silver hanging worn by inserting at the left side hip of the saree in an old photograph this idea popped up. But as kid she can't wear the full skirt without bodice. So no question of hanging the decorative ornament. Went to Paris corner, bought a roll of zari for the borders, a motif also ended up buying a bead hanging, which I thought will find a way to attach in the skirt. But still I wanted that to be removed while giving it for dry wash.

Coming to the hanging part, attached one end of a long strip made with zari, inserted the loop of the hanging in this strip. At hip end stitched a hook loop and at the other end a hook. Now I can fold it to secure with hook while wearing. When I want to remove it undo hook to take out the hanging. One thing to remember is to make the length of the hanging strip long enough  to hold the bead hanging just below the blouse bottom.

I also wanted this paavadai to be worn by my Daughter without bodice after she grows taller. So cut a long strip of 3 inches wide. Folded the strip to form a belt. Made gathers for the skirt as usual and attached with the belt, in which I left an extended length to stitch buttons or I can cut it if am stitching a zipper for the opening with one or two hooks at the top.

But for now she needs bodice. So attached the bodice on top of the belt. Later I can remove the bodice by removing the stitch. Bring the opening to the side. It may also need relocation of the hanging.

In this, blouse is no big deal. Attached the zari border for neck and sleeves border. Motif at the center. Hope I have not confused you.
